Upper School Robotics Team Qualifies for State Competition
MVA Team 19122A qualified for the 2020-21 State Championship. Team members: Jathin G, Ben G, Trevor M, and Connor M won the Excellence Award, the highest judged award given, at their first tournament of the season. The State-level competition delayed offering invitations due to the uncertainty COVID-19 presented, however, the team was excited to receive its official State invite. Both MVA robotic teams will compete at Apopka High School on Feb. 6, the last tournament of the season, before preparing for the State Championship.
Team 19122B is still waiting on their invitation, but expecting it will arrive in the coming weeks. The team will receive theirs for earning a high ranking in the State for what is called the Skills Board. Each team is currently ranked 9th and 12th in the state (out of 47 teams total), but will hopefully raise their standing after the final tournament on Feb. 6.
“I’m proud of the immense work and dedication all of the team members have put in this season,” said Mr. Stephen Whitfield, physics teacher and robotics coach. “We nearly won the State Championship last year. I’m hoping this year that they will take the State Championship and earn an invitation to the World Championship. Both teams have worked incredibly hard and we look forward to seeing that play out in competition.”
