THEATRE

Montverde Academy has a dynamic theatre program that includes students at all grade levels. The Academy produces many main stage comedies, dramas and musicals annually on-campus in our Sandra O. Stephens Auditorium.

Montverde Academy’s theatre program offers students at all grade levels to participate in theatre activities. At the Lower School, each student participates in one theatrical production per year. At the Middle School, all sixth-grade students participate in theatre class for one semester, and seventh and eighth-grade students can choose theatre as an elective. Upper School courses are offered in Theatre History, Theatre for Social Justice, Theatre and Film, Improvisation, and Children’s Theatre.

The theatre maintains a rigorous performance schedule in coordination with the MVA Theatre Conservatory. Recent productions include: “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, “Mamma Mia!”, “Clybourne Park”, and “Something Rotten!” A unique component of our theatre program is the staging of Shakespeare each year, including: “Macbeth” and “Romeo and Juliet.” Productions are open to all MVA students.

MVA has a popular International Thespian Society (ITS) chapter that competes in Florida district and state festivals. We maintain strong relationships with theatres including Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Center, The Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, Moonlight Players, Garden Theatre, and Mad Cow Theatre, as well as other local high schools.

Our productions and performers have received numerous accolades from such programs as the Applause Awards, Cappies and the Florida International Thespian Society. Alumni from our programs regularly continue in theatre after graduation at the college, community and regional theatre levels.

The W. Daniel Mills Theatre Scholarship Fund

To honor their son Daniel’s legacy, in 2020 the Mills family established the W. Daniel Mills scholarship, so other young, deserving, and talented students would have the opportunity to grow their talents and live their dreams as Daniel had within the walls of Montverde Academy’s exceptional Theatre Conservatory program. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to deserving students (current or prospective) who have a demonstrated need for financial assistance to make an opportunity for participation in the Theatre Conservatory at the Academy possible.
