Welcome to Lower School
At the Montverde Academy Lower School our belief is that, as educators, our role is to prepare our students for success not only as young students of today but as our leaders and professionals of tomorrow. Education has changed over the last 20 years with technology integration in the classroom and everyday life. As a result, so has the role of a teacher. Adults as well as children have access to information and knowledge with a quick word in a search engine and/or the touch of a button. It is no longer a teacher’s job to impart knowledge but to be a coach, facilitator, and supporter of a student’s pursuit of knowledge.
So what then do our young students need for future success? Educational research agrees on four essential skills that are necessities as we prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow.
Those skills are:
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Creativity and imagination
- Critical thinking
- Problem solving
Our intent at Montverde Academy is to provide opportunities for students to practice the essential skills that develop creativity/imagination, critical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate with others as they explore and gain knowledge.
The mission statement of Montverde Academy focuses not only on knowledge but equally on the importance of character and community development in children. Along with our strong academic program at the Lower School, we desire our students to learn and grow through character development. By focusing on the Character Counts pillars of Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship every day, students are held accountable to ensure an environment where optimal teaching and learning occurs.
Understanding the responsibilities and obligations of being a part of a community is essential in our diverse and ever-changing society. We not only teach respect and understanding of cultural, religious and racial differences. We actually celebrate them! Being a part of a school community where students come from all over the world to our Upper School, our Lower School students have unique opportunities to learn about the world around us.
