Rising 11th grader Sebastian Salas Loyo recently completed a four-week Filmmaking Summer Intensive at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. During his time there, he wrote a short film titled “Memoriam,” which was nominated for Best Drama and Best Screenplay.
He acted in several other projects during the intensive and came close to a Best Performance nomination, which was ultimately awarded to the lead actress of “Memoriam.” He also edited and served on various crews.
During class, he had the opportunity to watch, study, and discuss classics such as “Casablanca,” “Citizen Kane,” “Amadeus,” and “Apocalypse Now,” in addition to French films like “Baraka” and “Man Bites Dog.” From learning about film scoring to editing, directing, screenwriting, cinematography & lighting, and producing, he truly loved and valued every week of the intensive and is grateful for his time at UNCSA.
