The Lower School Garden: Cultivating a Love for Growing Food

Lower School students have been working extra hard to prepare for this year’s garden in Mrs. Whiffen’s science class.

On Friday, they sat in the shade while she read them a book called The Little Gardener by Emily Hughes. After that, they gathered around the fresh mint and smelled the beautiful aroma.

Students get really excited about the idea of growing their own food, and they even had the opportunity to make eggplant fries in class with the eggplant from the garden. Jan Rivera, a third-grade student in Mrs. Whiffen’s garden club, loved making the eggplant fries so much that he went home and made some for his family.
