The Galaxy Girls +1 Succeed in VEX Robotics Competition at Montverde Academy

By Dr. Caryn Long, Director of Educational Technology and Innovation

Two Middle School students and one Upper School student competed in a VEX middle school event on Saturday, January 6, at Montverde Academy.

Ella Drawdy (grade 7), Alexis Eastham (grade 7), and her sister Emily Eastham (grade 9) are all members of a VEX home team called The Galaxy Girls +1. The team is nationally ranked fifth in Teamwork, and they won both the Robot Skills and Excellence awards during the event due in part to their highest score in autonomous programming. They remained in the top seven of alliances during this competition.

The team is now ranked number one in the state of Florida, 43rd in the country, and 114th in the world rankings. Emily and Ella bring their talents to the FIRST LEGO league team at the Middle School, as well.

Upper School VEX Robotics students helped to judge and run the event, multiple Middle and Upper School students assisted with its operation, and Middle School robotics students ran the concessions to raise funds for their program.
