Montverde Academy’s STEM SAC Students Deliver Impressive Presentations on Monday Night
This past Monday, students who are members of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Student Academic Concentration (STEM SAC) delivered impressive presentations that focus on specific STEM areas of interest to them in pursuit of future careers. Students of the STEM SAC Class of 2022 had their presentations recorded and their papers formally published on the MVA website. Concentration represented the Biomedical, Engineering, and Technology fields.
During their years of membership, they participate in service projects, and field trips and have had the opportunity to meet various professionals already in these fields. As seniors, they are asked to choose a subject of interest within their field and conduct a scientific study or metanalysis to present to their study group. A formal research paper and presentation are then analyzed by their advisors and the top students are picked from each group to present to a larger audience.
“Pride is not a strong enough word to use as a descriptor for the excellence these students demonstrated Monday night.”, said Dr. Caryn Long, Middle School Science Teacher, and STEM SAC Lead. “The breadth and depth of their subject matter far exceed any that I have witnessed, and I am proud to say I had the opportunity to encourage their passions. I am grateful to their advisors for nurturing our students’ passions for STEM and look forward to seeing what the next chapter holds. I will now be looking for their involvement in the program as mentors of the next generation of STEM SAC students.”
