Sara Echavarria, a rising tenth grader at MVA, attended the National Student Leadership Conference at the Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and studied in the medicine and healthcare program.
For nine days, she learned a number of skills, such as suturing, intubation, performing CPR, performing ultrasounds, performing laparoscopic surgery, and assessing a medical emergency.
She also toured the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine where a registered nurse and a primary physician spoke to students about various career options within the field. “It was all an amazing experience,” said Sara, “and apart from the medicine and the great learning experience, I had endless opportunities and was able to create lifelong friendships.”
