Rising 10th Grader Mike Kong Participates in Assistant Coaching Program and Summer Internship

The summer months are a great time to unwind and take a breath after a rigorous school year. Many students at Montverde Academy understand the importance of taking full advantage of that time while understanding the need to keep their minds and bodies fresh and active during those months.

Weimai “Mike” Kong, a rising 10th grader and SIMA student-athlete, is no exception. This summer, Mike has volunteered his time at Jixiang Club, a semi-professional soccer club in Shanghai, as an assistant coach, teaching soccer skills to five- and six-year-olds. In learning to be an effective coach, Mike states that he has learned the value of showing respect to the kids and discovering their interests and strengths.

Mike has also been interning as a customer service assistant for Taimei Technology, “a pioneering healthtech company focused on building a digital ecosystem for the life science industry” (prod.taimei.com/en/), where he collects client feedback, documents any issues, connects them to the technical department to resolve the issue, and follows up with them a few days later. Throughout this process, Mike has grown to recognize the importance of being able to learn skills quickly and has appreciated his time learning to work with a team in a large organization.
