Residential Life Begins the New School Year with House Parent Training

By Kirstin Coffman, Director of Residential LIfe

On Sunday, August 6, the Residential Life and Upper School administration team began their back-to-school House Parent training in preparation for the start of the 2023-24 school year.

The highlight of the training was when alum Chris Mitchell came to speak about his boarding life experience and what an impact his house parents made on him. He told us the story about how he met a friend the very first day of school, and now they are business partners and are raising their children together.

The training continued with team building activities focused on the importance of effective communication and overviews of the services available to support the students, including high school counselors, learning support, and facilities management. The training ended with a combined event with the 2023-24 Prefects and a dinner hosted by Jon and Mindy Hopman at the Head of School’s residence.

We have twelve house parents this year, with Alice Chapman and Jeffrey Smith as two new additions to the team. One big change this year is that KP has returned to a girls’ dorm and McCammack a boys’ dom. We are looking forward to a wonderful school year!
