MVA Welcomes David Ian Lee as the New Director of Theatre
Montverde Academy is pleased to announce the hire of Mr. David Ian Lee as the newest Director of Theatre.
Born and raised in Southern California, David began his life in theatre at the age of six, when he performed a four-minute adaptation of Romeo & Juliet. He received his BFA in Acting and Directing from the University of Arizona and his MFA in Directing from Illinois State University. He is a graduate of New York’s William Esper Studio, where he studied with William Espera and Terry Knickerbocker.
David has served as a director in New York for the Pearl Theatre Company, Manhattan Theatre Source, Flux Theatre Ensemble, and Boomerang Theatre Company. He has directed plays, operas, musicals, short films, and more across the country.
“The Theatre Conservatory is incredibly excited to have hired someone with David’s talent level and background,” said Dean Bell, Director of Arts at MVA. “In our short time collaborating on the new season and course curriculum, it is already clear he will challenge our students and elevate our well-respected program to new heights. I know longtime supporters of the MVA program will be as excited to be a part of this journey as we are.”
David has dedicated his life to the profession and craft that has been an inspiration for more than three decades. He has worked in higher education institutions such as Tennessee State University, Illinois State University, Lincoln College, and Middle Tennessee State University. All his experiences have shaped who he is today, and we are honored to bring him on board with us at MVA!
