Evan Willis, a rising ninth grader at Montverde Academy, volunteered for three weeks in Costa Rica for the service program The Initiative for Children. Evan was one of 24 students that came from around the world to complete service projects at local schools, including planning, delivering, and managing activities and lessons for local children, as well as painting and working in and around the schools.
When he wasn’t volunteering, he had the opportunity to experience Costa Rica’s rich culture by visiting a pineapple farm, going whitewater rafting and ziplining, spending a day at the beach, visiting a coffee farm, and eating traditional Costa Rican foods for most meals.
He had a wonderful experience and plans to return next year to work with the same program.
