The Montverde Academy boys basketball team has won its unprecedented eighth national championship, and the Eagles end the 2023-24 season with a perfect record.
The Montverde Academy boys basketball team defeated Paul VI 79-63 in the championship game of the 2024 Chipotle High School Nationals championship game on Saturday afternoon in Brownsburg, Indiana.
The Eagles went 33-0 on the season.
MVA was led by Curtis Givens who scored a game-high 24 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including 6-for-9 from behind the three-point line. Cooper Flagg added 16 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots, while Derik Queen added 19 points, six rebounds and four assists in the win.
MVA trailed briefly in the first minute of the game, but the Eagles were in control and led the final 31 minutes of action.
MVA led 21-14 at the end of the first quarter, and the Eagles led 45-32 at halftime.
MVA led by double-digits most of the second half and kept Paul VI at arm’s length distance the rest of the contest.
The Eagles held a 30-14 advantage on points in the paint and 14-5 on second chance points.
MVA shot 60 percent from the field (27-for-45) in the win.
