Rising eighth grader Ghevin Olmstead was selected as a junior camp counselor for the Military Kid Camp hosted by UCF/4-H and the Florida Army National Guard Youth Advisory Program. Children of veterans from across the country attended a week of team building, swimming, archery, and more at Camp Cloverleaf in Lake Placid, Florida. After submitting the application, passing the interview, and completing training, Ghevin received 58 volunteer hours and an invitation to the official Florida Youth Advisory Council committee.
“I’m a good swimmer,” said Ghevin, “but I was able to convince a younger kid to wear his life jacket and swim with me by wearing a jacket also. He had fun, and I was able to show him some swimming techniques. I can’t wait to do more and go back to camp next summer.”
