Middle School Mathematics
In our Middle School mathematics courses, students practice problem-solving skills and develop their ability to use mathematical thinking to approach, evaluate, and solve complex real-world problems.
Math in Focus courses 1, 2, and 3 provide an authentic Singapore math curriculum, which has remained consistently at the top in international studies of math achievement. In these courses, students learn concepts using a concrete-pictorial-abstract learning progression that anchors learning in hands-on experiences while encouraging flexibility in approaches to problem-solving. Using manipulatives and model drawings helps students connect visual representations with real-world problems, giving them a deeper understanding of abstract concepts and the ways that those concepts will be used in Algebra, Geometry, and beyond.
Advanced math students in the Middle School can take Algebra I Honors and Geometry Honors, and students who successfully complete Algebra I Honors and/or Geometry Honors while in Middle School receive Upper School credit toward graduation.
