Over 1700 tons of sand were used to complete the Academy’s NCAA/FIUB approved regulations sand volleyball courts project – that is 18 inches deep on the playing surface of each court. The four new beach volleyball courts will provide the unique opportunity for Montverde Academy high-school volleyball players to receive NCAA scholarships for either indoor or outdoor university beach volleyball programs. Prior to this school year, no other coeducational independent private high school in the United States had ever initiated a funding campaign to support this ever-growing sport; the most watched sport of the Olympics.
Montverde Academy’s Upper-school classroom building, a $4 million project financed by Montverde Academy alumni, parents and benefactor donations, was completed in early September, 2015. The Upper-school structure’s building designer and general contractor is Aagaard-Juergensen, LLC., of Orlando, Florida, and is approximately 36,000 square-feet. Its facade creatively mirrors that of its former, the original MacKenzie Building, and features 26 classrooms, additional educational programming space, and scholastic features intended to improve student learning and access to modern technology.
The remodeling of the George H. Rast Library was remodeled over the summer of 2015 to allow for improved study areas and study rooms, as well as easier access to more academic books and literature. Throughout the summer, the Montverde Academy community may have noticed MVA’s Annual Fund project logos appearing throughout campus on buildings like the library to help identify institutional annual fund initiatives. The renovated George H. Rast Library will assist MVA teachers to provide more technologically collaborative lessons for their students to help them learn in more contemporary and innovative ways.
The maintenance facility was erected during the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year. The facility is located behind the Henry Roberts Gymnasium.
The new maintenance facility offers an abundance of storage and workroom space, and allows for better and more secure housing of MVA tractors, mowers, and various grounds equipment. The maintenance staff offices are also located within.
The MVA Aquatics Center sports infrastructure project began in late 2013, and was completed in the spring of 2014. The pool is located to the right on the grounds facing the Montverde Academy Center for Sportsmanship and Wellness (“The Nest”) and was constructed to train the MVA Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Swim teams for their on-campus training, and future swim-meet competitions. Montverde Academy’s newest sports facility (62 feet wide by 84 feet long; depth 4 feet deep in the middle and 6 feet deep on each end) was created by Wiseman Pools of Clermont, Florida.
Construction is complete on our new contemporary six-million dollar athletic facility, the Montverde Academy Center of Sportsmanship and Wellness, located next to the Henry O. Roberts Gymnasium/William O. McQuaig buildings (across from the MVA tennis courts/baseball complex). The forty-four thousand square-foot athletic building built by Schmid Construction from nearby Clermont, Florida features a modern-day basketball court designed for an audience of 1,500, two additional practice basketball courts, two volleyball courts, and a 4,400 square-foot fitness center equipped with state of the art fitness equipment, showers, and locker rooms.
We are excited to announce the new Sandra O. Stephens Media Arts Building. The 12,000 square foot addition will greatly benefit our growing Fine Arts program – already hosting around a hundred students at any given time during the class day. Designed by Richard Matz Design Associates of Clermont, the first floor of the building hosts the instrumental music hall, private rehearsal rooms, storage areas for music, uniforms and instruments, restrooms, a faculty workroom and a computer laboratory for our media arts program. The second floor houses the vocal music rehearsal hall, private rehearsal rooms, a listening laboratory, a piano lab/classroom and storage for music, restrooms, and a modern video recording studio for our video production studio.
Our state-of-the art Athletic Complex was completed and is a beautiful addition to our ever-growing campus. This new facility has enabled the Academy to host track and field tournaments, as well as introduce new sports such as our new varsity and junior varsity softball team. It is also home to our #1 ESPNHS (Rise) boy’s soccer team coached by Mike Potempa. The team has achieved amazing results with Coach Potempa ushering the Eagles into two straight undefeated seasons. This has culminated in our producing many exceptionally gifted student athletes. Just in these two years, 8 of our young men have signed to Division I schools and 5 more have signed to Division II schools.
