Giving to MVA
Montverde Academy has two main revenue sources, tuition and fundraising. Like most independent schools, the Academy does not receive any funding from the government or any religious organizations. That’s why annual gifts from alumni, alumni parents, current parents and friends are crucial.
Gifts make up the difference between what tuition covers and the actual cost of running the school. Necessities such as library books, dry erase markers, computers and software, in addition to teacher salaries and benefits, are all funded by unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund. If you believe in Montverde Academy and its values, education, and importance in the community, we need your support.
When you donate, you will join one of Montverde Academy’s prestigious giving clubs:
- The 1912 Society – $10,000 or more
- The Philomathean and Athenian Society – $5,000 to $9,999
- The Trustees Society – $2,500 to $4,999
- The Headmaster’s Circle – $1,000 to $2,999
- The Lake Florence Club – $500 to $999
- The Academy Patrons – $250 to $499
- The Academy Honor Roll – $1 to $249
Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference in the lives of our students and ensures that Montverde Academy continues to educate inspiring and deserving young people. You can donate online, via wire transfer, or in one of the following ways:
Shopping: Earn money for Montverde Academy by saving box tops from your favorite General Mills products or by shopping at Target and signing up for the Take Charge of Education program.
Cash: While there are many ways to give to the school, a cash gift is the most common and the easiest.
Matching Gifts: If your employer matches gifts, your donation will have double the impact at Montverde Academy. Pick up a matching gift form from your company’s personnel office and return it to Montverde Academy.
Stock: Gifts of appreciated securities of stock can be one of the most advantageous ways of giving. If your stock is one you have owned for more than one year, you may deduct the full fair market value of the stock as a charitable contribution and bypass all capital gains taxes.
Bequest: A gift made through a bequest is a symbol of commitment to Montverde Academy and strong reminder to those who remain of unyielding philanthropy and concern for the future of Montverde Academy. A general bequest is a gift of cash satisfied from the general assets of an estate. A residential bequest is when a portion, or all, of the remainder of the estate is directed to Montverde Academy, after payment of expenses, debt and general bequests.
Life Insurance: If you have a life insurance policy that is paid-up and no longer needed to meet your family’s needs, you can donate it to Montverde Academy. Montverde Academy will then have the option to cash in the policy, allowing you to give a gift to Montverde Academy without affecting your cash flow.
Charitable Gift Annuity: A charitable gift annuity allows you to give Montverde Academy cash, marketable securities or other assets and in return Montverde Academy will agree to pay you a certain amount of money for the rest of your life. When the contract ends, the remaining assets will be transferred to Montverde Academy.
Charitable Remainder Trust: There are two types of charitable remainder trusts, a charitable remainder unitrust and a charitable remainder annuity trust. Both allow you to create trusts which will pay you annually. A charitable remainder unitrust will pay you or a designated beneficiary a percentage of the principle value annually whereas a charitable remainder annuity trust will pay you or a designated beneficiary a fixed amount annually. In both cases, when the trust terminates, the assets remaining in the trust will be transferred to Montverde Academy.
Charitable Lead Trust: A charitable lead trust allows you to put assets in a trust and pay a percentage of those assets to Montverde Academy for a predetermined period of time. When the trust terminates, the remaining assets will be transferred to you or a designated beneficiary.
Before naming Montverde Academy in your will or considering another kind of planned gift, such as a trust, please consult with an attorney or financial advisor to explore what type of planned gift is best for you and your family.
