Middle School World Languages

Studying another language helps students better understand the world and grow as global citizens while also developing linguistic awareness, memory, verbal skills, and reading abilities.

Students in our Middle School learn the fundamental elements of the Spanish language in sixth- and seventh-grade courses that promote an understanding of the history and culture of Spanish-speaking peoples around the world. In these introductory courses, students develop basic communication skills and learn essential vocabulary while studying countries around the world where Spanish is spoken. Students in eighth grade can continue this work in Spanish I or choose to begin their study of French by taking French I. Advanced students have additional opportunities through our Upper School courses, including courses designed for native and heritage speakers of Spanish.

Students who successfully complete either Spanish I or French I while in Middle School receive Upper School credit toward graduation.
