Montverde Academy alumnus Patricio Garino ’12 stopped by on Wednesday, October 13 to visit with the students of the Center for Basketball Development (CBD). Recently, Garino signed a two-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs and he represented his home country of Argentina in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
In addressing the CBD students, Garino imparted his knowledge of the game and his gratefulness to Montverde Academy. “You guys are very lucky to have this program, when I was here we didn’t have this arena, or the cameras, or many of the other things you have now. You are surrounded by amazing people and the diversity of the Academy is something that really helped me going into college and beyond” Garino said.
He also spoke of his work ethic and how he made his dreams a reality. “I wasn’t the best on the team when I was at MVA,” Garino said, “but I worked hard. You all are so young, if you show up to practice and really give it your all, there’s no telling where it can take you.”
That evening, the San Antonio Spurs took on the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center, and the MVA family was out in full force to support Garino! The Spurs won the game (the final score was 95 – 89) and everyone had a wonderful time cheering him on and watching the game.
In two weeks, Garino will find out if will be a part of the San Antonio Spurs’ main roster for the upcoming basketball season. We are amazed and proud of his achievements thus far, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for him. Good luck, Patricio!
