Ayden Nadler, an incoming MVA 6th grader for the fall of 2016, was selected by the Walt Disney World Resort as an Elementary School Dreamer and Doer Shining Star! This prestigious award program has recognized regional students annually for over three decades who have demonstrated academic initiative and altruism that has “inspired others and made the world a better place.” The Walt Disney Company awards recipients with theme-park tickets to Walt Disney World and also provides them with Disney-themed statues.
According to a Walt Disney D&D Shining Star press release, “The process begins when students are asked to nominate themselves by writing a 300-word paragraph describing their achievements. These achievements don’t necessarily have to be academic. The contest’s official rules provide examples of student contributions that include: strengthening their families; conservation/environmental projects; helping others; safety; school achievement in spite of barriers; improving their schools; serving as a role model for siblings/friends; or other positive actions. Then, the student asks a teacher to champion his or her application by writing a 75-word endorsement. The two essays are turned in to the school’s principal by the school’s announced deadline, and a school winner is chosen based on the strength of the essay.”
Ayden participates in several academic and athletic activities. On his last report card at Harmony Community School in Osceola County, Ayden received straight A’s. He also loves basketball and will be attending Coach Boyle’s Basketball Camp next month. His parents informed MVA, “As he continues to excel in academics, community, and leadership his basketball game is also exponentially increasing. At the Florida State AAU Championships this past month, Ayden was the 6th leading scorer in the state, we can’t wait to see what he will do with consistent training.”
