Montverde Academy’s Theater Department has been selected to participate in the American High School Theater Festival in Edinburgh Scotland! The Academy will be taking part in the AHSTF in August of 2017. The AHSTF runs in conjunction with the world-renowned The Edinburgh Fringe Festival – the world’s largest and most prestigious performing arts festival. This selection is an honor for our theatre program, our students, and our school.
The American High School Theatre Festival collaborates with state, regional, and national theatre professionals to nominate the nation’s top high school theatre programs. MVA’s theatre department was recognized for the high caliber of its productions. AHSTF’s board of advisors, comprised of university professors and theatre professionals, selected us from more than 650 schools to represent the United States and Canada in the 2017 AHSTF program. The board selected the top schools based on their most recent work, community involvement, teaching philosophy, professional recommendations, honors and awards, and overall theatrical excellence.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival will showcase four performances from a Montverde Academy theater production and our students will experience the Edinburgh Fringe Festival both as artists and audience members, as well as partake in a Ceilidh – a traditional Gaelic social gathering of folk music, singing, dancing, and storytelling. MVA theatre students will also experience the amazing Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a dynamic event of military bands from four continents performing at Edinburgh castle. They will then travel to London to attend West End shows and participate in workshops being held at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the world-renown National Theatre.
