Montverde Academy’s Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) held another successful “Spring Cereal Food Drive” to support the Lake County, Florida, charitable organization Buses ‘n Backpacks.  Mrs. Sara Stelle-Parets, MVA Middle School 6th grade teacher, informed the Montverde Academy Communications Office that throughout last month the NJHS collected 451 boxes of cereal that were eventually donated and sent home with area students living in insufficient-food households.

According to their website, Buses n’ Backpacks of Clermont, Florida, feeds children “…who are afflicted by poverty and homelessness.” The organization works with 16 local schools, “serving 500 children each week.” Donations collected by MVA students will feed students who are unable to access a healthy school breakfast and lunch.  Many of our regional families face the reality of missing meals or not having enough food for balanced nutrition. Often these families have to choose between paying rent and buying food.  Buses n’ Backpacks operates to alleviate the anxiety and stress associated with hunger – and allows those enduring hunger to maintain their hope and dignity.
