2011 Montverde Academy graduate Francisco Lindor, currently a shortstop with Major League Baseball’s Cleveland Indians – and who was selected as a runner-up for the 2015 AL Rookie of the Year Award, will be visiting the Boys & Girls Club – South Lake Unit (3700 S. US Hwy 27, Clermont, Florida) TONIGHT, Wednesday, February 3rd, from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Lindor, chosen as the eighth selection of the Cleveland Indians in the 2011 draft, played impressive baseball throughout his five seasons in the MLB minor leagues.  As reported by Montverde.org last November, Lindor made his debut in mid-June and proved he was one of the best rookies – and best players in all in the MLB’s American League.  According to an article “Cleveland Indians: Former host family was pulling for Francisco Lindor,” written by David Glasier of The News-Herald and published 11/16/15, “In 99 games with the Indians after his promotion from Triple-A Columbus on June 14, the 22-year-old native of Puerto Rico batted .313 with 12 home runs,51 RBI, 13 stolen bases and an AL-high 13 sacrifice bunts.  Lindor was also solid in the field, leading all AL shortstops with 10 defensive runs saved.” To read the entire aforementioned article, please visit HERE.

The suggested donation for entrance into this evening’s event is $25.  According to an official press release, the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lake and Sumter Counties (BGCLSC) “…is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.  In 2015, over 2,400 local youth had access to Club programs with three priority outcomes – Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship.  Club programs are offered at locations in Leesburg, Eustis, Umatilla, Clermont, and Lady Lake, with outreach programs in Sumter County. A new program at Spring Creek Charter School opened in August 2015.”
