Last month, during a special afternoon Middle School Assembly, and before Montverde Academy’s Christmas break, 10 Montverde Academy students enrolled 4th – 8th grade (two contestants per grade level) competed in Montverde Academy’s annual Geography Bee – Montverde Academy’s adaptation of a 2015 National Geographic Geography Bee – that was held inside the Sandra O. Stephens Fine Arts Auditorium.
Congratulations to 1st place winner Akash Tandon, and, (tied for 2nd place) Myra Syed, Alex Alvarez, Nate Valada, and Roshni Tanna! The event was exciting and moved very well. After those in attendance joined contestants in a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, two “practice rounds” were conducted that were in turn followed by 12 “real rounds” of competition comprised of both written and oral questions (6 verbal, 6 written). MVA Middle School Dean Warren Delmolino asked the questions and was assisted by Mrs. Kim Brauman, MVA Guidance Counselor, and Mr. Tom Narducci, Middle School History teacher, who served as a judges. Mrs. Sara Stella-Parets, MVA Middle School 6th grade teacher, assisted with event production and the overhead projection/PowerPoint maps used in the competition.
