The Montverde Academy Boys’ Varsity Basketball team were very busy over Christmas break! After winning 3 of 4 games at the 2015 City of Palms Classic (Fort Myers, Florida ) – their only loss coming from a thrilling 1-point loss (82-81) against #1 ranked Chino Hills (California) – the Eagles then flew to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to compete in the highly respected Beach Ball Classic where they defeated St. Francis (Georgia) by the score of 81-55, and Socastee (South Carolina) 99-21. Montverde Academy also defeated Seton Hall Prep (New Jersey) 66-59 in the BBC Semifinal, and St. John’s College Prep (Washington, DC) 52-48 to win the BBC Championship. In the new year, the Eagles then journeyed to Wheeling, West Virginia, to compete in the Cancer Research Classic – defeating then #4 nationally ranked DeMatha High School (Maryland) 74-71.
The Eagles are back in action THIS SATURDAY (Saturday, January 9th) at 7:30 p.m. against Florida’s Deltona High School Wolves (13-3) in a game being played inside the Center for Sportsmanship and Wellness — The Nest. Please come to support the Montverde Academy Boys’ Varsity Basketball team Saturday! General admission price for the game will be $5. The Eagles have now won seven straight games and are nationally ranked #2 by both PrepNation.com and BallisLife.com. Montverde Academy is also ranked #3 by USA TODAY’. The Eagles also climbed four spots to #4 in this week’s CBS MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national rankings. MVA plays Philadelphia Roman Catholic, and, Chatsworth Sierra Canyon (California) on January 16th and 18th at the Spalding Hoophall Classic – held in Springfield, Massachusetts. Later this month, Montverde Academy will defend its championship in the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT) which begins on January 28th (*stay tuned for more MAIT information). After the 2016 MAIT, MVA will have four games remaining on its schedule – as they seek selection into the 2016 DICK’S Sporting Goods High School Nationals Tournament – being played March 31st – April 2nd at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
