Montverde Academy’s Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Fall Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive was a great success!  Students collected 1,652 jars of PB&J that were donated to the Buses n’ Backpacks organization to assist in feeding children affected by poverty and homelessness in Lake County, Florida.  NJHS has participated in this remarkable philanthropy for three years. The PB&J drive began on Monday November 9th and concluded on Thursday November 12th.  After the collection, Buses ‘n Backpacks filled backpacks with Montverde Academy’s donated peanut butter, jelly, and donated bread.  MVA’s The back-packs were then delivered to needy children for both Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks (an estimated 9,000 meals will be provided for families in need).

According to Mrs. Sara Stelle-Parets, Montverde Academy Middle-school 6th grade teacher, “The Montverde Academy Middle School did an outstanding job bringing in as many jars of peanut butter and jelly as they could during the four day drive. We set a lofty goal was 1,000 jars, deciding that it was easy to bring in 200 or 300 jars, but MVA students are EXCEPTIONAL! As an extra incentive, Mr. Delmolino agreed to give students two causal days if they reached this goal, which they had no problem achieving. There was also an advisory contest to see which advisory could bring in the most jars. The winning advisory would celebrate with a pizza party sponsored by NJHS. This year we had a tie for first – 6th graders with Mrs. Parets and 8th graders with Mr. Pauli. Mr. Pauli had a mysterious Jelly Fairy come and deliver another 50 jars later that day, just to show that MVA truly is exceptional! It took volunteers from NJHS nearly an hour to box up all the donations and load them on to the truck.”
