Welcome Back to School Update #2 finds us less than a week away from the start fall semester (Welcome Back to School Update #1 can be found HERE) and there are many important events to remind all new and returning studentsTONIGHT (Wednesday, September 2nd) will be a Montverde Academy Lower-school “Meet & Greet” starting at 6:00 P.M. inside the MVA Lower-school Building.  The annual event is held for parents and M.S students to see their new classroom and meet with LS faculty and staff.  As mentioned in the August Montverde Academy Campus Update, there will be two new programs beginning at the MVA Middle-school: a weekly Bike Club has been created for Middle School students, faculty, and staff.  Also, on Saturday mornings from 8 A.M. – 10 A.M., a M.S study hall has been instituted for students who either don’t complete or finish their homework.  For additional information on Middle-school programs, please contact the school HERE.  Middle-school Athletics tryouts for grades 6-8 will be held TODAY, (Wednesday, September 2nd) with M.S Coed Soccer from 4:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. on the soccer practice field, and M.S. Girls Volleyball from 4:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. inside the McQuaig Gym.  Practices will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 4:00 P.M.– 5:00 P.M. each week unless there is a game scheduled.  For more information on M.S. tryouts, please contact Coach Caitlin Griffis, Montverde Academy’s new Middle-school Athletics Coordinator, HERE.

As mentioned on Montverde.org News on Tuesday, September 1st, 2015, Montverde Academy will open a new Upper School classroom building with a U.S Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony on Tuesday, September 8th, 2015, beginning at 8:00 A.M.  Montverde Academy’s newest campus structure includes twenty-five classrooms as well as a computer laboratory and house the Upper School’s academic and counseling offices, college guidance, residential life, and IT.  Construction of the roughly 36,000 square-foot building costs $4 million and has been financed by donations from Montverde Academy alumni, parents and benefactors.  *All visitors attending the upcoming events are asked to park in the gym parking lot and walk to Centennial Plaza.

On Friday morning, September 11th, 2015, at 8:00 A.M., Montverde Academy will hold our annual 9-11 Memorial Service and International Flag Raising Ceremony on the grounds of the Academy’s The public is invited to join more than 1,200 Montverde Academy students, faculty, parents and staff members in attending both events that acknowledge and celebrate the diverse group of international students who learn, live, and grow together each year at Montverde Academy.  MVA’s 9/11 Memorial Service will also include a moment of silence in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the unforgettable terrorist attacks on New York City’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.  The 9/11 Memorial Service will be immediately followed by MVA’s Flag Raising Ceremony.  Students from around the world, representing over 70 countries and 16 American states, will raise their home countries’ flags during the outdoor flag-raising ceremony. *As with the U.S Ribbon-Cutting, visitors attending the upcoming events are asked to park in the gym parking lot and walk to Centennial Plaza.  Later Friday night, at 6:00 P.M, MVA parents, faculty, staff, and trustees are invited to Montverde Academy Headmaster’s Welcome Back Reception at Bella Collina.   If you haven’t, please let us know you are coming/RSVP to this adults only event HERE.

As stated on the Upper School Tab Back to School section of Montverde.org,  and in preparation for this upcoming athletic season, MVA Upper-school’s Athletic Department athletics has asked parents and students should view Montverde Academy Master Calendar for any games scheduled, time/date changes, all athletic forms must be completed and filed with the Dean of External Programs, Ms. Sue Tortora, before being allowed to participate in any workouts, practices, scrimmages, or contests.  MVA Athletics has developed a Parent Expectations and Acknowledgement form for each parent to review, sign, and submit to the Athletic Administrative Staff. A reminder to parents of new students scheduled to attend our annual MVA Way Orientation – including Rising 9th Grade Students: Due to the weather forecast for this Saturday, September 5th, we have decided not to have the afternoon portion (pool, water slides, music etc.), but we will still have the orientation in the morning.  Below is the updated schedule for this Saturday:
