Miss Caitlin Griffis is Montverde Academy’s new Middle-school Athletics Coordinator.  She is also the Assistant Lady Eagles Varsity Softball Coach.  Coach Griffis graduated high school from Baker County High School, located in Glen St. Mary, Florida in Baker County, Florida, in 2008, where she helped lead her school’s varsity girls softball team to its first ever Florida Final Four appearance.  Coach Griffis then received a scholarship to play at Lake-Sumter Community College, where she played for two years before graduating from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in 2013 with a B.S. in Sports and Fitness.  Coach Griffis coached the past two season at Timber Creek High School as the hitting specialist.

The MVA Middle-school’s first games of the fall semester will be played AWAY Tuesday, September 8th, 2015, at 4:30 P.M – the location for the soccer game will be at First Academy, and for the volleyball game will be Hickory Point.  Montverde Academy’s Middle-school Eagles soccer and volleyball have their first home games Thursday, 9/10/15, at 4:30 p.m.  As the new M.S season approaches, Coach Griffis wanted to reach out to M.S parents with some important information about upcoming team tryouts – and to inform any new parent that their child will need a physical and all the correct times/locations.  The following letter was sent by Coach Griffis to Middle-school parents this week:

Hello Parents,

I want to briefly introduce myself and then we will continue to grow a relationship as the season progresses. My name is Caitlin Griffis and I’m the new Middle School Athletics Coordinator, as well as the Assistant Softball Coach. I graduated in 2013 from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Sports and Fitness. I’ve always had a passion for sports and I’m extremely excited to get this year started!

I wanted to remind all of you that we will be having tryouts on September 2, 2015 from 4-5pm for both co-ed soccer and girls volleyball.  Please make sure all athletes have a current physical prior to tryouts and practice.

•        Volleyball tryouts will be in the McQuaig gym; and

•        Soccer will be held at the Bishops Gate field.

What to Bring:

Volleyball – proper sneakers and knee pads, if necessary, i.e. ankle braces, athletic wear (shorts and t-shirts); if wearing sliders, shorts must be worn over the sliders before and after tryouts.

Soccer – cleats, sneakers, and shin guards, if necessary, i.e. ankle braces, athletic wear, etc.

Coach Tom Narducci will be the Head Coach for the Middle School Volleyball team. He is also assisting Coach Rachel Adams for the Junior Varsity and Varsity volleyball program. He is eager to begin the process of shaping your girls into next level athletes!

Coach Seth Stowers will be the Head Coach for the Middle School Soccer team. He also works with the SIMA program with Coach Mike Potempa. He was the coach last year for those of you who are new to the MVA family. Tryouts will be equivalent to a normal practice, so make sure they are prepared to be out in the heat (properly hydrated) and ready to go.

MVA Athletics’ main goal throughout this season is to prepare our young, student-athletes for their future, by placing academics at the top of their list while participating in interscholastic athletics. We, as middle school educators, care about implementing sportsmanship, hard work and dedication. We want all the student-athletes to remember our core values (Knowledge, Community and Character) and to have a respect for the sport and for Montverde Academy.

We are looking forward to another great year! I will be at the Middle School orientation, Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at 6pm, please feel free to come introduce yourself and ask any questions that you have. If you do have any questions prior to orientation, please don’t hesitate to call or email me. Thank you for all your support in this program and I look forward to meeting all of you!
