“To be prepared is half the victory,” once wrote Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616). If that’s true, “prepared” is a good word to describe the current Montverde Academy Girls Varsity Volleyball program. Under the leadership of 2nd year Head Coach Rachel Adams, the Lady Eagles defeated Foundation Academy 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-15) Wednesday night in preseason exhibition competition held in Winter Garden, Florida, at Foundation Academy’s “Roar of the Lion Classic.” MVA’s Lady Eagles brought a vibrant game and focused attitude to the court to help set the tone for a successful upcoming regular season.
If preparedness is half the battle, talent and hard work must be the other half for the Montverde Academy Lady Eagles. The match between the two teams has become an annual rivalry. But Wednesday night, Montverde Academy came to play and met the challenge. The Lady Eagles took flight by leading an offense comprised of strong serving and hitting.
Montverde Academy jumped out of the gates with 11 total aces, Camille Nieves and Jess Hamel scoring 4 each. MVA hardly allowed Foundation to get into a rhythm With the serving and defense firing at all cylinders, the Lady Eagles felt the confidence to take a crack at the net, and swing away they did. Alyssa Keller, an eighth grader who just turned 13 this past week, led the team with 8 kills. Savannah Swenson, a junior, also had an exceptional night, firing off 5 kills. Kaeli Crews, a freshman, rounded off the stellar offense with 5 kills of her own. With relentless defense and offense working in harmony, the Lady Eagles never let up and took home the victory.
Montverde Academy’s Lady Eagles Volleyball team will be in action again TONIGHT, Friday, August 21st at 7pm facing off against International Community School, located in located in Maitland, Florida, to compete for the “Roar of the Lion Classic” preseason title. Good Job Ladies and GO EAGLES! *A special thank you to Lady Eagles Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach Tom Narducci for providing the above information to Montverde.org.
