After a 1-under-par round 1 and 2, Ana Paula Valdes, a rising Montverde Academy/Bishops Gate Golf Academy senior, showed “what she had in the bag” during Round 3 of the third annual Women’s Porter Cup at Niagara Falls Country Club played June 3-5, 2015. Mr. Ben Hicks, Marketing Manager for Bishops Gate Golf Academy, informed Montverde.org that Ana Paula carded a tournament-best 6-under-par 65 in Round 3.
“Valdes’ final 3 holes sealed her spot in the winner’s circle. After a tee shot landed within inches of the cup on the par-3 16th, Ana Paula made an eagle 3 look easy on the 17th. As she walked on to the 18th green, Valdes was two strokes ahead of playing partner Christina Foster. Foster sank her birdie putt to come within 1 shot, but Ana sank her par putt to claim the victory,” wrote Hicks in a recent BGGA press release.
In a recent June posting on amateurgolf.com, Ana Paula Valdes is stated to have captured the Women’s Porter Cup title with a final-round 65 after trailing second-round leader Christina Foster of Canada by two strokes entering the tournament’s final round, but she shot into the lead (and captured victory) after achieving the lowest round of the tournament. Valdes’ victory came by just a single stroke after finishing with 68 in round three.
Ana Paula, a native of Morelia, Mexico, will be a senior at Montverde Academy this coming school year. She is transferring to Montverde Academy from IJGA and Heritage Academy, located in Hilton Head, South Carolina, to combine her academic study and junior golf training in Central Florida. After graduation, Ana Paula Valdes will be attending Clemson University to play NCAA golf. See Ana Paula in action at the 2015 Women’s Porter Cup junior golf event HERE.
