On Monday, May 4th, 2015, Montverde Academy junior Tianqi “Jimmy” Wei, a MVA boarding student and native of China, received a 2015 S.O.A.R. Award from the West Orange Chamber of Commerce.  The award was presented to Wei at the annual West Orange Chamber of Commerce Education Awards ceremony held at Olympia High School, located in Orlando, Florida. The S.O.A.R. (Students of Achievement and Renown) Award is for Central Florida students in fifth, eighth and eleventh grades recognized for their “initiative, good citizenship, commitment and personal growth in the classroom.” Area students, their parents, and regional community leaders were in attendance to honoring student excellence “inside, and outside of the classroom.” 2015 S.O.A.R. beneficiaries received a distinctive medallion.

According to statement made to the West Orange Times this week by WOCC President/CEO Stina D’Uva, the purpose of the 2015 WOCC Education Awards is to “…promote academic excellence by providing recognition for today’s outstanding youth, opportunities for our future leaders and inspiration for young students who aspire to achieve the same academic success as (the) honorees.” The 2015 West Orange Chamber of Commerce Education Awards program was sponsored by Orlando Health, Mathnasium, The Tutoring Center, and Trophies Unlimited.  During the ceremony, Jimmy was referred to as an excellent student, and accomplished member of MVA’s Varsity Cross-Country team, as “…a kind a motivated young man with great academic ability and also a true student athlete.” The 2015 S.O.A.R. High-School level
honorees were: Stringara Glorieux (Dr. Phillips), Jessica Brown (Evans), Hannah Finn (Florida Virtual School), Madison Strong (Foundation Academy South Campus), Tianqi Jimmy Wei (Montverde Academy), Ashley Shaw (Ocoee), Michael Greenwald (Olympia), Olivia Griffith (West Orange) and Bradley Woolgar (Westside Tech).
