For the last five years, Montverde Academy’s Lower School has collected “POP TABS” to help fund the Ronald McDonald House Charities, and their Pop Tab Recycling Program of Central Florida. By collecting pop tabs throughout the entire school year, MVA’s Lower-school has been able to support the operations of two Ronald McDonald Houses, located in the Orlando, Florida, region (Walt Disney Pavilion at Florida Hospital for Children and onsite at the Arnold Palmer Medical Center).

MVA parents, students, faculty, and staff supported the 2014-2015 LS’s collection and donation. Mrs. Melody Sinopoli, L.S. Kindergarten teacher, and MVA’s RMH “POP-TABS” philanthropy organizer, informed that this school year the Academy collected 115 pounds of pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald Houses of Orlando, Florida! “It’s like giving a little token of love to a family in need. The Ronald McDonald House is a wonderful charity that helps parents when they needed the most,” stated Mrs. Sinopoli.

The money Montverde Academy has raised for RMH through the years, has assisted families with a sick children to lodge at the Orlando-based RMH’ for approximately fifteen dollars a night. The resulting POP TABS collections have indeed been remarkable – and have raised nearly .75 cents per pound over the following years:

  • 2010-11: 80lbs. $60.00
  • 2011-12: 74 lbs. $55.00
  • 2012-13: 189 lbs. $141.75
  • 2013-14: 129 lbs. $96.75

According to the RMH’s website, “… the Pop Tabs program has collected over 80 tons of pop tabs (that’s A LOT of pop tabs!) and raised over $120,000 to benefit the children and families staying at the two Ronald McDonald House locations in Orlando since 1996.” To learn more about the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida Pop Tabs program visit
