This semester, MVA’s NHS partnered with Chick-Fil-A and sold chicken and biscuit sandwiches every Wednesday over the span of four weeks (Feb 18-Mar 11) in order to raise funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Clermont, Florida. The NHS members chose to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club because NHS members support its mission “…to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” Montverde Academy’s NHS philanthropic outreach project with Chick-Fil-A was a very fulfilling experience – especially knowing that the proceeds were going to a good cause: to help local underprivileged children.

According to Mr. Jeff Wexler, MVA ESL Instructor, and MVA National Honor Society Advisor, “At Montverde Academy, our policy is to treat National Honor Society like a democratic community. We empower our students by allowing them to choose and vote for their officers, then allow our officers to propose ideas for our yearly service project to the members, who then vote on which service project they would like to choose.” In a recent email to, Mr. Wexler added,” In the coming years we will continue fundraising on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club organization. And thank you to all who purchased sandwiches to support our cause.”
