Throughout the Montverde Academy school year, various MVA alumni visit our campus. Oftentimes, MVA alumni join together to attend Montverde Academy Alumni Association events. MVA alumni also visit MVA to reconnect with their former classmates, teachers, and faculty.

In March, three MVA alumni stopped by the Academy to view their recently purchased “string bass” donation. According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, “The double bass, or upright bass, also called the string bass, contrabass, bass viol, stand-up bass, bull fiddle or simply bass, is the largest and lowest-pitched bowed string instrument of the violin family in the modern symphony orchestra, with strings usually tuned to E1, A1, D2 and G2 (see standard tuning). The double bass is a standard member of the orchestra,[1] smaller string ensembles,[2] and the concert band in Western classical music. The bass is used in a range of genres, such as jazz, 1950s-style blues and rock and roll, rockabilly/psychobilly, traditional country music, bluegrass, tango and many types of folk music. A person who plays the double bass is usually referred to as a bassist or bass player.”

Our alumni guests, Mr. George Crady ’49, Mrs.Virginia Crady (George’s wife), Mrs. Phyllis Bowron Cross ’49, Mrs. Patricia Gardner Edgar ’49, were also able to enjoy hearing 2014-2015 Montverde Academy Music Conservatory students perform music on the donated string bass instrument during a MVA Conservatory strings class. Alumni visitors then went to lunch at a restaurant located at  Bella Collina Golf Course with MVA Alumni and Development staff.

Montverde Academy educates over 1200 students enrolled throughout three school-divisions that include over 350 boarding students from 20 states across America, and with day and boarding student representations from over 60 nationalities worldwide. In the summer of summer 2013, in an organized effort to cultivate lasting relationships with MVA alumni throughout the world, Montverde Academy officially initiated an alumni association. The Montverde Academy Alumni Association (and its membership) is free to all MVA alumni (whether or not they graduated), and plays a valuable role in helping the Academy maintain alumni and past attendee correspondences and associations.

Working in conjunction with the Montverde Academy Development Office, the Montverde Academy Alumni Association also contributes to parent/alumni relations through fundraising activities and the cultivation of both current and prospective donors.  These diverse responsibilities are managed through MVA’s Alumni Development Office, headed by Mr. Christopher Mitchell, Director of Development and Government Relations, and supported by Mrs. Jennifer Box, MVA Director of the Alumni Fund and Alumni Affairs, and Mr. Derek Phillips, MVA Development Coordinator. MVA alumni interested in becoming a member of the new association can do so by filling-out the form posted on the website HERE.
