The Montverde Academy Girls Varsity Softball team defeated Orlando’s Trinity Prep on Tuesday night in the Florida District semifinal game 6-2. MVA’s Lady Eagles scored a run in the first inning and never let up. According to Lady Eagles Co-Head-Coach Ms. Kelly Golden, MVA’s Natalia Rodriguez “… reached base by an error, then advanced to 3rd base on a bunt by Emily Martin and then scored on a single by Hannah Futo. Rachel Yurchick kept the momentum going in the 2nd inning with a lead-off home-run! The lady eagles added 5 more runs in the 2nd inning with hits by Hannah Crumblish, Destiny Moye, Bailey Bates and Victoria Atkinson. Trinity Prep answered back scoring 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning making the score 6-2. Rachel Yurchick pitched 6 innings and kept the hitters off balance with 3 strikeouts and only gave up 5 hits.”

Montverde Academy’s Lady Eagles will defend their district championship tomorrow, Thursday, April 16, 2015, at 4PM against Bishop Moore Catholic High-school. Both teams will advance to Regional play, and the game will be hosted by Lake Highland Prep, located at 500 Brookehaven Drive, Orlando, Florida. A concessions area and public restrooms will be open (in the same building near the field of play). MVA’s Lady Eagles team’s overall 2015 record is 14-7, and 6-0 in their Florida 4A District competition. The Lady Eagles are ranked #65 in Florida. Last season, MVA’s Lady Eagles were 21-5 after a loss to Florida Top-50 ranked Cocoa Beach High School (#40), of Cocoa Beach, Florida, in the Florida District 7-1 A regional semi-final game. Five MVA Lady Eagles players were named to the 2014 4A All District team. In the 2013 season, MVA’s Lady Eagles Girls Varsity Softball team record was 22-7, and went as far as competing in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) tournament’s Class 3A state semifinals.
