The Montverde Academy JV Lacrosse team’s final game is scheduled for this Thursday, March 26th, 2015, at HOME, against Lake Minneola High School, starting at 6:00 PM. With only one game remaining in the season, the Eagles will strive to stay undefeated. In their first 10 games, MVA has outscored our opponents 113 goals to 59 goals. 56 of MVA’s 113 goals were assisted by a teammate – this is an amazing accomplishment for any lacrosse team on any level. MVA Freshman goalie, Terance Hill has made 56 saves to date and only allowed 59 goals. (49% save percentage). MVA sophomore Phillip Bustamante, and freshmen Taylor Teasley and Blake Roderick have all played well for the Eagles defense. On offense, Jordan Williams is leading the team with 34 goals and 8 assists. MVA Eighth graders, Chase Meinhart (18g, 11a) and Justin Williams (19g, 7a) are second and third in points. Freshman Skyler Rosin (9g, 9a), sophomore Andrew Siegel (4g, 11a), 8th grader Shane Fisher (7g, 3a) and junior Chukwudi Uche (6g, 1a) have also been major contributors to the Academy’s lacrosse success throughout the season. Since our last JV Lacrosse team update, Montverde Academy defeated University High School, of Orlando, Florida, 11-4 (there were 8 different scorers in that game). MVA then overcame Hagerty High School, of Oviedo, Florida, in a close game 8-5. MVA face-off specialists Skyler Rosin and Jordan Williams won 10 of 11 face-offs in the second half to help win this game. In our 6th game versus Boone, MVA played their best offense scoring 17 goals with 14 being assisted, and Terance had his best game of the season in the goal with 13 saves.

Mr. Tony Williams, Montverde Academy Lacrosse coach, informed that “We were 6-0 going into our hardest week of the season. We played at Bishop Moore who was also undefeated at 9-0. We matched goals back and forth and held a slight lead at halftime 5-4. Bishop Moore came out strong in the 3rd quarter out scoring us 3-0 and lead 7-5 going into the 4th quarter. Justin Williams scored early in the quarter with an assist from Andrew Siegel. The possessions went back and forth with neither team scoring. We relied on our strongest athlete, Chukwudi Uche, who dodged down the right side and beat their talented goalie low to tie it up with 2 minutes left. We won another face-off and called a time out to set up the last play. Chase Meinhart had the match up and was beat his man and the goalie for his second game winning goal of the season. The Eagles won 8-7!”

When MVA recently played the First Academy of Orlando, Florida, the team was losing at the end of a low scoring half 3-2. After some adjustments during halftime, the team held a slim 5-4 lead into 4th quarter. With 3 goals in the 4th by Justin Williams, all 3 assisted by Andrew Siegel, MVA won 7-4. The next night, MVA hosted powerhouse Lake Mary High School, of Lake Mary, Florida. “We needed to play a very good game to beat them and that is what we did. We came out strong winning 4 straight face-offs and held a 3 goal lead after the first quarter. Our defense played strong and kept them from scoring in the first half. At halftime, we were winning 5-0. We matched scoring in the 3rd quarter and led 8-3 going into the last 10 minutes of the game. Lake Mary scored early cutting the lead to 4 goals. Jordan Williams won the next face-off and had a fast break to score a goal in 12 seconds. After matching goals again, Lake Mary went on a 4 goal run only to come up short 10-8. This was a great win for Montverde Academy. In our 10th game of the season, we played TFA for a second time at their place. I reminded the team how slow we started the last time we played them and that is all it took. We were up 6-0 after 1st quarter and 9-0 at halftime. We cruised to a 12-4 win,” added Coach Williams.
