It’s official: The 2015 DICK’S Sporting Goods High School Boys’ National Tournament field of nationally prominent high-school basketball teams have recently been decided, and include eight boys teams ranked in the USA TODAY Super 25 – a list containing six of the top 10 teams in the United States of America. The event will be held April 2nd – 4th, 2015, in New York, New York, and will be televised live on a variety of ESPN television networks. Montverde Academy’s Ben Simmons, a 6’9 senior center/strong forward for the Eagles over the last three seasons, will be leading MVA into battle to win their third consecutive national championship – and their 2nd successive DICK’s Sporting Goods High School Boys’ Nationals Championship. Simmons has averaged 28.0 points, 4.0 assists, 11.9 rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game for our Montverde Academy Eagles (28-1).

According to a Wednesday, March 18, 2015 USA TODAY article Wednesday, March 18, 2015 USA TODAY article, “Like last year, the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be at Christ the King High in Middle Village, N.Y., with the championship at Madison Square Garden…Montverde (Fla.) Academy, the second-ranked team and the No. 2 seed in the tournament, is shooting for its third consecutive victory in the event, which before last year was known as the ESPN National High School Invitational. The Eagles open with No. 7 seed Greensboro (N.C.) Day. The last time the teams played was in the 2013-14 season, when Montverde took a 78-46 victory at home…Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), the No. 1 team in the Super 25 rankings and the top seed in the tournament, will play Wings Academy (Bronx, N.Y.), which is ranked No. 19 and seeded eighth. Wings won the New York Public Schools League AA tournament.”

On Saturday, April 5, 2014, Montverde Academy’s 2013-2014 Boys’ Varsity Boys’ Basketball team won its 2nd consecutive national high school basketball title after beating Oak Hill 71-62, in the championship game of the DICK’S Sporting Goods High School National Tournament. In that nationally televised game, MVA junior Ben Simmons was selected the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and senior Justin Bibbs selected to the all-tournament team. The Eagles, who completed their 2013-2014 season undefeated at 28-0, won the 2014 tournament after winning three successive games played April 3rd-5th of 2014. All quarterfinal games were played at the Christ the King High School, located in Middle River, New York.
