The 2015 NCAA Men’s D1 College Basketball tournament, otherwise referred to as “March Madness,” officially begins TODAY, Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Several Montverde Academy alumni are once again well-represented in this year’s tournament. 2010 MVA graduate Steve Moundou-Missi, and native of Yaounde, Cameroon, has been a talented senior forward playing for Harvard University this season. Steve was known as a focused, and disciplined player while attending Montverde Academy. This weekend, Steve hit a jump shot to give Harvard a 53-51 win over Yale in the game’s final seconds. Steve’s teammate Chris Egi, a 2014 MVA graduate, is a freshman member of the Ivy League’s Harvard University team. Egi played an important role in the Eagles winning the 2014 DICK’S Sporting Goods High School National Tournament victory last April at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Steve and Chris play the North Carolina Tar heels on Thursday, March 19th, 2015, in the tournament’s West Region – 2nd round. Please view 2015 NCAA March Madness BRACKETS.

Grad Michel Enanga in 2012 MAIT2012 MVA graduate Michel Enanga, a junior of Coastal Carolina, will also be in “March Madness.”  Michael, also of Yaounde, Cameroon, helped in guiding Montverde Academy into the 2012 ESPN National High School Invitational where the Eagles placed 2nd after losing in the final seconds of the championship game. At Coastal Carolina, Enanga appeared in all 34 games of the 2013-2014 season as a sophomore, and was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 Team. This season he saw less playing time, but still averaged nearly 4 rebounds a game. Coastal Carolina plays Wisconsin this Friday in the West Region 2nd Round.

Dakari Johnson2013 MVA graduate Dakari Johnson, of the Bronx, New York, a center  for University of Kentucky, will be playing this Thursday (TBD) with his Wildcats in the Midwest Region 2nd Round. In his senior year at MVA, Dakari was a key-factor in MVA’s thrilling 67-66 nationally televised victory over St. Benedict’s Prep of Newark, New Jersey, in the ESPN 2013 National Invitational Tournament Championship. Dakari was also named that tournament’s Most Valuable Player of that game, and was a key factor in helping the MVA Eagles solidify their 25-2 record and #1 consensus ranking in all leading 2013 national high-school basketball polls. 2013 MVA graduate Devin Williams, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, is a strong forward playing for the West Virginia University Mountaineers of the highly competitive Big 12 Conference. Devin averaged nearly 12 points a game this season, and had a another fantastic year rebounding – averaging nearly 9 rebounds a game. WVU plays Buffalo University on Friday in the Midwest Region 2nd round.

2014 Alumni D’Angelo Russell, of Louisville, Kentucky, is currently a freshman playing basketball for Ohio State University. Russell, who was a Montverde Academy boarding student for three school years, is being considered by many national media writers and NBA scouts as a possible 2015 NBA Draft prospect. Last week, D’Angelo, who averaged nearly 20 points a game this season, was awarded the Big 10 Freshman Player of the Year, and also named to the 1st team All-Big-Ten too. Russell, who missed a large portion of his senior year due to knee surgery, was awarded the 2014 Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (M.A.I.T.) Most Valuable Player, and was a major factor in helping the Eagles have an undefeated season record of 24-0 in 2014, and winning the 2014 DICK’S Sporting Goods High School National Tournament. Ohio State plays Virginia Commonwealth University this Thursday in the West region 2nd round.
