On February 28th, Mrs. Rachel Adams, MVA Head Coach of the Lady Eagles Volleyball team, who is also a Lower-school Learning Resource Support teacher, accompanied MVA students (Chavisa Dechathipat, Mami Yamamoto, Karen Arimoto, Stepan Kolarik, Lucas Fagotti, Asafhe Lucas, Chun Yin Lee, and Malcolm Hinds) on a Montverde Academy volunteer-service trip to nearby Oakland, Florida, to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit, “ecumenical Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live.”

According to their website, the philanthropic organization has “…more than 1,400 local affiliates in the United States and more than 70 national organizations around the world. Together, we have helped more than 1 million families – representing 5 million people – improve their living conditions since our founding in 1976… Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn are Habitat’s most famous supporters. The couple annually leads the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.” The Academy has never volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, so all the students who volunteered with the organization were very excited to help. In fact, when given the chance to leave for the day due to inclement weather, students chose to continue working in the rain! “I was very thankful for the opportunity to take these kids on this trip. I really enjoyed the entire experience. entire group had such great attitudes,” Mrs. Adams said.
