Louisiana State University Tigers Men’s Basketball team upset #18 Arkansas last Saturday. LSU freshman starting point guard Jalyn Patterson, a 2014 MVA graduate, was a key factor in the Tigers win. The LSU Tigers are members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). According to SB Nation, “Jalyn Patterson staked LSU to its first-half lead, firing in 3 ball after 3 ball that included a pair from the Hog well beyond the arc. He finished with 20 points, just one turnover and a surprising six rebounds in 32 crucial minutes.” Last weekend’s victory over Arkansas also positioned the Tigers for a possible NCAA tournament slot. However, Southeastern Conference (SEC) Men’s Basketball Tournament starts today in Nashville, Tennessee. Everyone in that conference trying to upset the Kentucky Wildcats – the #1 ranked team in the USA. Advancing to the SEC tournament final would seal the deal for LSU (22-9, 11-7 in the SEC) to be included in the NCAA’s March Madness tournament. Jaylyn’s strong play in LSU’s 73-63 win over Ole Miss late last month is featured in the following Louisianastate.scout.com video/article, “Patterson Recaps Win Over Ole Miss.”
Ben Simmons, a 6’8 center/forward senior co-captain on MVA’s Boys’ Varsity Basketball team, will join Patterson next season. Simmons committed to play basketball for the Louisiana State University (LSU) after his graduation from the Academy.
