Last month, Montverde Academy’s K-Kids, a Lower-school community service club affiliated with Kiwanis International, won the First Place award in the Silver Category of the 2013-2014 Florida K-Kids Children and Youth Service annual honors. The award presented annually to those K-Kids clubs that “…demonstrate originality and creativity in promoting program significance, and community impact.” Club service hours and funding are also additional considerations. One first place, and three honorable mentions are given in each size category. Montverde Academy’s chapter of K-Kids to submit reports each month on what our projects are and how much money is raised through the program. This is the 2nd year MVA K-Kids have won the distinctive award.
K-kids have been very active throughout the 2014-2015 school year as well. Most recently, on Friday December 12th, 2014, the Kiwanis Club of Clermont, with help from Montverde Academy’s K-Kids, held their annual Christmas party for children in need at Clermont City Center, located in downtown Clermont, Florida. In November of last semester, Montverde Academy’s K-Kids parceled eleven care packages for United States Air Force soldiers currently serving in South Korea. The MVA K-Kids students sent the packages in early in the month of December to ensure the packages would arrive by Christmas. The kind gifts were sent specifically to the Munitions Specialist Squadron (AMMO) division.
