On Monday, February 22nd, and Tuesday, February 23rd, Thomas Yint, a Montverde Academy/Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy senior, played outstanding golf to win the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) tournament played at the East Lake Woodlands. This was his 2nd win as a GGGA student (he won the FCWT in 2003). The junior golf event was held in Oldsmar, Florida, at East Lake Woodlands Country Club. Yint, of Burma, birdied holes 17 and 18 to overcome fellow GGGA student Kevin Yu. According to an official GGGA press release, “Yint, started out strong, quickly establishing himself as the leader. His first ro und totaled (-2) which landed him a 5 point lead over Yu. The leaderboard was quickly gaining on Yint during the final nine. However, Yint did not let this pressure affect him. To broaden the gap between him and the leaderboard, he sunk two consecutive birdies on the final two holes, taking the win. His overall score for the two day challenge was 146 (+2) while Yu, of Taiwan, took second at 4-over-par.” East Lake Woodlands Country Club is a wonderful environment to play golf, and has two 18-hole championship golf courses, with 14 Har-Tru and three hard surface courts – Many of those courts are lighted for evening play. By winning the HJGT at East Lake Woodlands, Yint received a 4-stars standing/grade from the American Junior Golf Association.
